Are we at EASE in the GIG Ecomony?
Can a Career be a GIG Job?
It seems the more and more we look around the more and more almost everyone is a Gig Worker.
There are stereotypical Gig Workers who are either contacted from job to job or side Gig Workers who are running services for extra cash such as Uber or DoorDash. Now I sense there are salaried Gig workers. And that’s where I feel I am.
I posted on X today that my 9-5 is about to engage in another round of layoffs. This is about the 3rd year in a row these have hit and at about the same time. While I feel “secure” in my job and know my value and status it by no means eases my anxiety.
I know a great many of us feel this.
We are all at someone or some other entity’s whims.
And that’s a rough feeling.
This is why I am starting to view my Salaried 20+ career with this company as a Salaried Gig Job. My loyalty is starting to fade, my eyes are wandering and I am brushing off my CV. I am more than willing to take another position in parallel with what I am doing and believe my loyalties will shift quickly to the new venture.
This in turn makes my current career my Gig Career.
I would love to hear anyone else’s experience in this new world.
What are you feeling, what are you afraid of, what gives you anxiety, or what fuels you with rabid excitement!
